Conor, Meilin and Takoda head out across the Sulfur Sea after some preparation. They encounter a giant angler fish presumably affected by its proximity to the Evertree. They end up being intercepted by a pirate vessel and get in a fight with the crew, who's leader, Atalanta, has a giant bullfrog ,Perth, also probably due to proximity to the Evertree. They manage to negotiate with the crew to let them on their way, and the trio reach the base of the Evertree's roots.
